SMOE's initiation into the offshore oil and gas scene didn't begin until 1st April 1973, when the company was incepted. Our portfolio grew from being a humble fabricator of process equipment to today's reputation of being one of the finest offshore constructors known in the industry.

The first decade 1973During this time, the "Industrial Engineering Division" was incorporated as Sembawang Engineering, as an engineering arm of Sembawang Shipyard specialising in the construction of modules, pressure vessels and structures for the offshore and onshore market 1973

Constructed the first offshore project, a 64 men capacity accommodation module for Offshore Services in the Antares Field, USA The second decade 1988Conferred to ISO 9001 by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance, one of the first companies in Singapore to be accredited 1989Made inroads into the Indonesian oil and gas market by establishing a joint venture with Brown & Root Indonesia to form PT Gema SemBrown, with yard facilities in Anyer, Java 1992Formed joint venture with China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Shenzhen Chiwan Petroleum Supply Base Company to form Shenzhen Chiwan Offshore Petroleum Repairs and Manufacture (CPEC) The third decade 1994

Established joint venture with China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Shenzhen Chiwan Petroleum Supply Base Company to form Chiwan Sembawang Engineering (CSE) 1996Renamed Sembawang Marine and Offshore Engineering 1999

Acquired Brown & Root's stake in PT GSB and renamed the company to PT Gema SembCorp Engineering (PT GSE) and maintained as a full subsidiary of SMOE 2001

Successfully attempted the heaviest jack up in company history – The Malampaya Integrated Deck at 13,000 mt 2001SMOE Pte Ltd was incorporated from Sembawang Marine and Offshore Engineering 2001Received accreditation to OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001, making SMOE the first construction yard in the region to receive the twin certifications at the same time The fourth decade 2003Achieved a combined projects safety milestone of 17 million manhours worked without a single lost time injury 2003Accredited to ISO 9001:2000 by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance 2004The completion of a custom-built fabrication yard on Batam Island through PT GSE and officially rebranded as PT SMOE Indonesia during the yard's opening ceremony held in Jakarta 2006SMOE was officially transferred from SembCorp Utilities to SembCorp Marine in a move to increase synergetic value and operate as the group's offshore specialist arm 2006PT SMOE Indonesia officially inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono 2007Struck a joint venture with HuanQiu Contracting & Engineering, one of China's top 50 engineering companies to form HQSM Engineering. This partnership aims to build on each company's strength and develop projects in onshore plant engineering. 2008
